"Rather Be Blind" Broderick Watching TV, a ship on the sea Casting the anchor down on your dreams It's not healthy, you won't get wealthy Filling up your head with all of this The people there Don't care about the place they're living in I know and I know that hope is slowing fading And I hope I don't choke on the smoke Slowly invading my world Believing in lies, the man in the disguise Friends are sometimes the ones behind it all Did you really think that the elected wouldn't laugh at you? Did you really think they wouldn't turn on you? The people there Don't care about the place they're living in, no, no I know and I know that hope is slowing fading And I hope I don't choke on the smoke Slowly invading my world My world The people there Don't care about the place they're living in, no, no I know and I know that hope is slowing fading And I hope I don't choke on the smoke Slowly invading my world You'd rather be blind You'd rather be blind, no You'd rather be blind, cause You'd rather be blind Why oh why would you rather be blind? Why oh why would you rather be blind? Why oh why would you rather be blind? Why oh why, yeah, yeah, yeah
3.
"ACES (Atlantic City Eyes)" Saunders/Broderick It's so hard to read you, Shouldn't waste my time but I need you A poker face designed to keep you out of her hands Why do you play these games to trick me? Right now my odds seem 50/50 I could lose it all too quickly If I risk my heart and go all in She got eyes like Atlantic City She got style like Atlantic City She got eyes like Almost too much to handle I could miss my chance to gamble But If I did I'd miss out on the chance I had to win Women here are just faces, Rolled a game and nothing changes You are pocket aces, If I fold I'll take it on the chin Somehow she comes clean too easily Somehow she flows like a river through me, yeah She got eyes like Atlantic City She got style like Atlantic City She got eyes like Somehow she comes clean too easily Somehow she flows like a river through me, yeah She got eyes like Atlantic City She got style like Atlantic City She got eyes like
4.
Now And Then 03:40
"Now And Then" Broderick It took me so long to get where I am Progress can hold you back now and then People, they're like a needle in the vein Sucking you dry for bucks in change But I'm tired, I'm tired of you telling me how to live Yeah I'm tired of this and everything you've said I fall, I fall down Now and then I fall, I fall down Now and then I fall, I fall down Now and then I fall, I fall down So you're the captain of your ship Everyone on board wants to see you sink They'll stop at nothing to drag you down Like an anchor tied to the ground But I'm tired, I'm tired of you telling me how to live Yeah I'm tired of this and everything you've said I fall, I fall down Now and then I fall, I fall down Now and then I fall, I fall down Now and then I fall, I fall down
5.
"All Your Life" Broderick Friends are a broken record You need someone by your side Eyes can tell quite a story And I tend to read in between the lines You always thought that you could do better Whatever happened to those dreams inside? Trust me, you're not worthless You can't be sure life is perfect If you've never tried Cause you, wanna break his ties If you change your mind I'll be playing the songs you wanted to hear All Your life All your life All your life All your life, yeah, yeah So often you'll live the lies As long as you find the time to justify them Your life full of longing, Can you really expect to survive it? If your intuition begs for freedom If emptiness tends to creep inside I'll be waiting here by your side, uh huh Cause you, wanna break his ties If you change your mind I'll be playing the songs you wanted to hear All Your life All your life All your life All your life Cause you, wanna break his ties If you change your mind I'll be playing the songs you wanted to hear All Your life
6.
"Under The Moon" Broderick Just a smile can make the clouds subside Sometimes the sun is lonely And you have to call it out Well please don't let everything pass you by There's only so much time, what are you waiting for? Under the moon, I've found that It's a monsoon without you I could have been your mystery You could have been my misery But you're not, and it's alright But you're not, and it's alright Without the dark there cannot be the light Just don't let yourself get caught in between for too long Ah, it'll tear you apart, tear you down Like nightmares from your past Like the time you hesitated, wished you could go back Ah, ah ah Under the moon, I've found that It's a monsoon without you I could have been your mystery You could have been my misery Under the moon, I've found that It's a monsoon without you I could have been your mystery, no no no n o You could have been my misery But you're not, and it's alright But you're not, and it's alright Wish I was back in time Wish I was back in time Wish I was back in time Wish I was back in time Wish I was back in time
7.
"Heart Strings Loose" Saunders "Where's all the gold?", she said "We're growing old", she said "I wanna know, I wanna know if we're meant Meant to keep on groovin'" Somehow it seems like heaven, If only we want it to So many weeks gone by now I'm turning, I'm turning My heart strings loose Am I in too deep, is the bleeding natural? Can't stop the beat, can't stop the beat, groove on My knees tremble with regret But I'm not one to share my secrets Somehow it seems like heaven, If only we want it to So many weeks gone by now I'm turning, I'm turning My heart strings loose Mmm, mmm mmm,mmm mmm,mmm mmmmm
8.
"Settle For Less" Broderick Ain't it funny how friends dissapear? They just settle down Is it loneliness they fear? It's too late for sleep, but it's never Too late to dream It's too late for sleep, but it's never Too late to dream Settle, I don't want to settle for less Settle, I don't want to settle for less Nobody's perfect, what is perfection? Will you be the one to share my reflection? But you lie to yourself in the mirror Cause it's easier than the truth It's too late for sleep, but it's never Too late to dream It's too late for sleep, but it's never Too late to dream Settle, I don't want to settle for less Settle, I don't want to settle for less At least I'm trying, to live the life I wanna live At least I'm trying, to live the life I wanna live At least I'm trying, to live the life I wanna live At least I'm trying, to live the life I wanna live At least I'm trying, to live the life I wanna live At least I'm trying, to live the life I wanna live Settle, I don't want to settle for less Settle, I don't want to settle for less
9.
Tear It Down 03:17
"Tear It Down" Broderick The people there, they don't care They got it all figured out, Got no time to work things out Build up yourself in your head, You're so sure you could be king You think the world owes you something The world don't owe you a thing You'll run down around the town Till everyone can see you now Don't we all want to be part of the crowd? And you tear it down And you tear it down And you tear it down And you tear it down And you tear it down Once your chance is gone, it's too late You'll drive yourself insane And channel your anger into hate You're only human Though we are just so small When compared to the earth and stars We are sure that there's some truth We could understand it all And you tear it down And you tear it down And you tear it down And you tear it down And you tear it down
10.
"I'm Over This" Broderick Do you know what it means to be lonely? Surely someone shares my pain Cause I've been chasing shadows Only to find out that they're casting doubts on me I'm as helpless as a bird's nest Without the mother there to feed it She has flown away, just like the love in my dreams And I won't spread my wings again I'm over this I'm over this Do you know what it means to be alone? Well no one knows but me The sounds of your room are closing in And there's no one there to help you escape It's been so long since the touch of her Surely there's someone else they say Who knows how long I'll be waiting to fill her place Because the cup has been empty for me I'm over this I'm over this I'm over this I'm over this Over and over, no one will know but me Over and over, no one will know but me Over and over, no one will know but me
11.
"Bucket Of Rain" Broderick I don't believe in anyone but myself It's so hard for me to trust anyone else Might be in my head, I just can't tell It's just something in my heart, that I've felt Who are you looking to blame today? What kind of clouds hold your tears today? There's no use in the weather, no, no When you're holding a bucket of rain In my life, there is pleasure In my life, there is sorrow In my life, there is leisure But is there really happiness? I don't believe that a life could fall apart It's a puzzling world for one to get caught There's too many pieces, and you have thought So put it together, to see what you haven't got Who are you looking to impress today? Does their opinion give you away? It's not enough for anyone If you're looking for satisfaction In my life, there is pleasure In my life, there is sorrow In my life, there is leisure But is there really happiness? We're always holding a bucket of rain We're always holding a bucket of rain I've seen rain, I've seen rain, I've seen it rain on the town Don't you know the world is round?
12.
On The Wind 03:12
"On The Wind" Broderick I've tried, I've tried so very hard To be a better man It seems my attempts have all been lost No one understands Black crows they seem to hang around my head But all of us seem to get picked every now and then But time goes on And it goes on And on, and on On the wind, you've sworn your sins On the wind, you've sworn your sins On the wind, you've sworn your sins On the wind That childish smile on your face is worn Such a loss of innocence By a path men are expected to ignore Will the sky forgive our sins? Wish I could go back in time to play again To smell the air the way it used to way back when But time goes on And it goes on And on, and on On the wind, you've sworn your sins On the wind, you've sworn your sins On the wind, you've sworn your sins On the wind

"Honestly, this is the longest I've worked on any band's album before, and I think it's some of my best work" --Producer and Sound Engineer Paul Howells.

"In The Basement" chronicles a period of change for Cotton, where the band immersed themselves in their basement practice space in New Brunswick, NJ and focused on songwriting specifically for an album. The band specified their approach to the writing process and all 11 songs that eventually made it onto the album were written during the course of 2010. From Mid-May-Feb 2011, the band worked tirelessly to write songs they felt were worth recording. Prior to May 2010, the band played numerous shows around the tri-state area building a reputation in Asbury Park, NJ and New Brunswick, NJ for their energetic live improvisation. However, the band felt that their original material lacked substance, continuity and direction. Therefore the band retreated to their practice space to work on what would become "In The Basement". Around February 2011, the band cut their 23 brand new songs down to 14, which NYU producer Paul Howells cut down again to 11.

The band worked with NYU sound engineer and producer Paul Howells, who happened to be in another band that went to Hightstown High School with members Brandon Broderick and John Aponte. Cotton recorded the album in under a month in Paul Howell's garage studio in Hightstown, NJ known as "The Castle". Weeks later, Broderick recorded vocals at Harvestworks studio in Soho, New York City (the workplace of Howells). Paul Howells also mixed and mastered the album.
